Movie chain cuts admission price Last Updated Jan 26 2005 07:38 AM EST
CBC News
TORONTO ? Famous Players will chop the price of tickets at its movie theatres in the Greater Toronto Area by $4 starting this Friday.
The cut will reduce the price of an adult ticket from $13.95 to $9.95. Prices for seniors and children will remain unchanged at $8.50.
Famous Players president and chief executive Robb Chase says the prices are being dropped in response to growing competition from movie rentals and pay-per-view broadcasts on satellite and cable television.
Chase said many patrons also complain about how expensive it's become to go to a movie. "We do get guest comments on our general admission pricing," he said.
In the past three years, Famous Players has cuts prices in a number of Canadian cities, including Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal. In those markets, Chase says attendance went up 10 to 15 per cent.
As part of the new pricing policy, the chain is ending its longstanding policy of discounted tickets on Tuesdays.
