OMG. I work at an animal hospital and I would advise anyone who wants to declaw their cats THINK before you ACT!!!!!
The surgery involves taking the first joint of their claws out - not the nails, but the first piece of bone on their claws. The vets open up the cat's paw, finds the joint of the bone, and twists until it disconnects. The animal will be in a tremondous amount of pain and takes weeks to heal. Cats that are declawed will later develop arthritis and other leg/joint problems because they will be walking on the KNUCKLES for the rest of their lives. Imagine the first joints of your fingers get taken off. Some states in the US have banned this surgery due to its cruelty, but unfortunately Canada (especially Quebec!) has not regulated it yet.
Another note, the surgery will cost you over $400.
