Moose Hunting (6)
We went back to our camping ground and relaxed and chatted and make plans on which place they preferred to go. It was up to the hunters, they were paying the shot. The hunters decided to go where there were fresh tracks. We had a late dinner, filled up our thermos bottles and off we went.
We took the truck and left one hunter where the fresh tracks were and we went to the Muskeg with the other hunter. We left the truck and walked about ten minutes towards the Muskeg. We found a place to hide. I listened for about half an hour, and started to call with the moose call. Sat back and waited; I whispered “Sh...sh”, to my hunter. “Did you hear that twig snap?”, and he said: “No”. “Sh, be quiet!”, there is a moose nearby. I called again and finally the moose answered me. My hunter looked at me. The moose cam towards me very slowly, and now the sun was going down and it was dusk.
My hunter was nervous, buck fever; we walked very quietly to the truck and had a good cigarette in the truck. We picked up the other hunter and asked if he had heard or seen anything. “only partridge”. All he heard was partridge that are very noisy in the bush. We headed back to our camping ground and had supper.
