据安省旅游局10月3日发布的秋色报告表明,阿冈昆省立公园(Algonquin Provincial Park)的枫叶颜色变化目前已达顶峰,红色、金黄、黄色交相辉映,是欣赏的最佳时机。横穿公园南部的60号公路沿途的枫林极富观赏性,公园内最佳的欣赏枫叶地点就位在游客服务中心(Visitor Center)。枫叶之美,尽收眼底。因此,建议本周末最好不要错过良机。

Ontario "More to Discover" Fall Colour Report

The FALL COLOUR PROGRESSION REPORT is posted weekly on www.ontariotravel.net. You can call 1-800-ONTARIO for updated reports each Monday and Thursday during the beautiful fall colour season in the province of Ontario.

This is the report for Thursday, October 3, 2002

Northern Ontario

There is a 50% colour change in Dryden and south to Thunder Bay area and across to Fort Frances. There are some nice pockets of yellow and gold from the poplar, ash and birch trees in the region with just a hint of red. The colour has progressed significantly, in the past few days, along the north shore of Lake Superior and into the Sault Ste. Marie region with about a 60 to 65% colour change. Some nice pockets of deep burgundy and orange along with gold and yellow in the region. Keep in mind the Agawa Canyon Tour train adventure is a great way to enjoy the beautiful fall colour, north of the Sault Ste. Marie region. It is best to call ahead and make a reservation for this outstanding tour.

In the Northeastern region we have a 50% colour change, at this time, in the Kirkland Lake area with some splashes of yellow and orange along with pockets of red. The colour is brighter now in the region. Highway 66 near Esker Lake Provincial Park is showing some nice colour. The North Bay region across to Temagami area is reporting a 30% colour change at this time. Reds and yellows are predominant in the region. The Sudbury area is just starting to see some small pockets of colour, about a 20% change.

The colour has advanced quickly in the Algonquin Park area where the colour is now at peak. There is a beautiful mix of red, gold and yellow. The highway 60 corridor through the park is always outstanding and the lookout, to the south from the Algonquin Park visitor centre, is now an ideal viewing location.

Central Ontario

In the Minden, Haliburton County region now enjoys a 50% change, with bright patches of red, yellow and orange. The fire tower lookout in Dorset, on Highway 35, is an outstanding fall colour location. In the beautiful Muskoka region, the colour change has advanced to about 60%, some nice pockets of yellow and orange with splashes of red. Colours are now brighter. The bright red and burgundy in the sumacs is beautiful. An ideal viewing location, as the colours advance, is Lion’s Lookout, in Huntsville. The fall colour season has progressed to about a 30% change at time, in the Parry Sound region. Highway 559 and Highway 69 northwest of Parry Sound are showing some very nice colour. The colour has advanced to a 20% change in the northern Kawartha Lakes region and with more colour now across into the Barrie, Huronia areas where there is a 40% change. The Horseshoe Valley region, northeast of Barrie, is showing some nice small pockets of colour, at this time.

Eastern Ontario

The Pembroke region along the Ottawa River is showing some nice areas of colour, about a 40% colour change, with pockets of red, yellow and orange. Highways 512, 514 and and 515 along with County Road 64 are especially nice. The Brockville, 1000 Island area is featuring a 15% colour change at this time with pockets of orange and yellow along the 1000 Island Parkway region. A cruise through the 1,000 is always an outstanding way to enjoy the colours of the region.

Ottawa Region

The Ottawa area is just starting to see some small pockets of colour, about a 20% colour change. Some small areas of yellow, orange and red with a walk along the beautiful Rideau Canal, an excellent way to enjoy the colours of the Ottawa region.

Western Ontario

We are starting to see some nice areas of colour now in the region from Owen Sound, along the Georgian Bay shoreline and south of Meaford, into the beautiful Beaver Valley region. There is a 40% colour change at this time, in the Owen Sound region, with yellow and gold being dominant colours. There are some nice pockets of colour on highway 6 in the Bruce Peninsula heading toward Wiarton. There is a 60% change in the spectacular Beaver Valley. The Inglis Falls area, near Owen Sound, offers an outstanding viewing location and the drive into the Beaver Valley from Highway 4 in the south, is always excellent. There are several scenic lookouts in the area. The Hockley Valley region and Caledon area are always popular fall colour destinations. The area is just starting to show some nice colour with about 25% change. Pinery Provincial Park, along the shoreline of Lake Huron is a great fall colour destination with beautiful hiking trails. The colour is just starting in this area with a 10% change, mainly in the sumacs.

Niagara Falls region

We are just starting to see some small pockets of colour with about a 10% change. The Niagara Parkway from Niagara on the Lake to Fort Erie is always an outstanding fall colour destination. Also the many wine routes offer excellent fall colour as the season advances.

The balance of the province including the Greater Toronto region offers no significant colour change as yet.
