A University of Quebec professor predictied on CBC Radio today that Nortel will be in some form of bankruptcy within four months. This professor has repeatedly made predictions of gloom for Nortel inclduing one earlir in the year when he said Nortel has entered a death spiral.
He made the point today that it was an incompetent managemnt that had caused this at Nortel. He made comments about the management always running around reacting to events instead of antcipating and controlling them.
On the same program, the CBC noted that the currnt employee base in Ottawa is not publicly known but the CBC beleives it to be below 5,000. The peak employment in Ottawa was around 15,000 according to the CBC.
The parking lots at the Carling labs used to be packed with acres and acres of cars. Visitors had a hard time finding anywhere to park. I suppose that it is completely different now.
