开车去美国需要护照吗？

近期想开车去美国玩，请问是否有公民卡即可？谁知道现在过美国国境是否需要护照？

外交部的网页上说带公民卡可以.

(个人意见是: 如果有护照最好带着. 如果实在没有又来不及办, 就多带点其他证件, 比如驾照.)
