手动对焦要靠viewfinder,D70的太小了。

true enough. I found 350D's viewfinder is small too (better than D70.). I am so bothered by that, since I use manual focus a lot. my copy of 17-40/4L has a back focus issue. I never bothered to return it. But I had to use manual focus. It is good during day time, say bright out there. But when time approching dusk, it gets really bad. not to mention night, it was a nightmare. Obviously, it is something to do with the max aperture of lenses.

Why does Agua want manual focus? Nikon has never had this problem. A friend of mine uses Nikon D70, now D70s after firmware upgrade, I played with his camera for a long time, I have never discovered any problems in this regard. But those lenses are slower than my USM Lenses for sure.

I found manual focus can be an option under certain circumstances (In my case, portrait photography with fast prime lenses). Specifically, when focal point is out of the 5 focus areas. Focus-and-re-composing sometimes has un-expected, disapointed results. Entry level D-SLRs have the same drawback (lower the cost), small viewfinder, this makes manual focus even more difficult.
Need practices, however.

that's why someone making split-image focus screen.

just something to throw in. I just heard about the "eye focus" technology from Canon. Obviously, Canon has been using this technology in certain model of SLRs. However, top of the line 1Ds MarkII does not currently equiped with this fancy stuff.

Basically, "eye focus" is that camera scans your eye to detect where you look at, then focus on that point automatically. 0.8 sec response time. pretty cool, erh? :D

真的是夏天吗?为何从照片里我感受不到夏天的那股热力。

Is there any more Meech Lake sunrise picture taken today?
