I think you did an ok job on this one. not bad for a beginner. (I am learnning this trick too) in many stituations, you can not use flash, such as this one. She is simply too far from you. a darkroom modification is a must.

Do you realize that your model's eyes are more attractive than they were? the eyes in the original photo are merely noticable. Portait is much about eyes in my opinion. In another posting, GangW told me that my cat photo was not sharp because of the dim eyes. you know what? I think he is right. The same also applies to your photo.

But why did you find it lost "stereoscopic"? I think you applied too much dodge on it. The goal here is not to remove the shade on her face, remember? we are just trying to reduce it a bit so it stands out. To her eyes, apply more dodge than other part, so that all these efforts lead viewers eyes to contact her eyes. eye contacts = heart communication = successful portrait.

Last, you still remember the poster Chinese government used to promote "HOPE" for schoolless kids and Her world-well-known eyes?

去阴影我一般用曲线调，因为不管怎么调整张照片的色调都跟着变，别的方法只改动局部都感到有些不自然，可能还要钻研一下更好的方法。
这个图是曲线加减淡，总之觉得受条件限制改动的余地实在不大了 以后会多尝试人像的（这是第一回呵呵）
BTW，很同意你对eye contact的观点，可是我觉得并不是所有类型的eye contact都适合直接的目光交流（就像“hope"里的小女孩）有时候我更倾向于那种游走的，迷离的，甚至有些颓唐的美感:blowzy: 可能是因为个人性格原因吧。外国的好些MM都是深眼窝，高颧骨，天然的眼影，比如这个MM,很适合我的古典口味

This one is much more natural. only one thing though, you might have applied too much dodge on the eyes. :-D sorry to be so picky. But it is me. I am a perfectionist. :-D I either do it perfectly (as least to me) or never bother to do it.
