no built-in flash, quite professional on one hand, yet, doesn't have a built-in grip. I think it will comfortably fit in the cap between 20D to 1Ds MarkII, if it is not just a rumor. Logically, I think it is designed to be a backup for pros. Then, I am confused as why Canon still keeps 1D MarkII?!
However, this can be very attractive to us, since it is full frame, and way cheaper than 1Ds MarkII. so here we go, Canon starts a full frame dream for everyone. Obviously, depends on how high your fever is, we all sooner or later jump in this Full frame business. Canon sucks every drop of our blood. Canon wins again, as always.

I agree with you totally about the vicious cycle. But thing may not be that negative, really. Those lenses were design for 35mm film body long before digital body arrives. If 35mm film professionals are happy with those lenses, why aren't we?
besides, media has been using FF for quite a long time by now. I have never heard complaints.Consider this is a hobby only, I make nothing from it, except fun. Yet, like how much money am I willing to put into this just for fun? I am not crazy yet. And I am a firm believer of "it is the mind behind makes great photos, not the camera." The more I see other's work, the more I believe in it. Many bad Leica photos out there that suck so much, I can use my S400 beat them hands down. yet, some people uses their point and shot camera with very limited manual control proceduing unbeatable images that I could only hope to do it myself one day.
I think we should be realistic here. If what the rumor said was true, then it has a large sensor to scan, way bigger than 20D/350D. 1Ds MarkII has only 4ftp, and that is top of the line. It is beyond any cameras in its class in this spec.
I think those pros can use 20D, which is the fastest one, and its 1.6x crop factor also does not effect much, since they need to zoom in with their ef-300 or ef-400 anyways.
