I heard that a bucket's pc died. Below is my opinion:
1. Don't do the BIOS thing. It's a way to solve that kind of problem but it's a tough work for a newbie even for a expert. You'll probably damage the BIOS chip.
2. CIH can damage the BIOS if the BIOS is writable. I'm not sure if the BIOS on your motherboard is writable because for a P2 300 CPU there are some motherboards that have a writable BIOS and some don't have.
3. Have you heard any sound when you start you computer?
4. Academiclly, power supply is very very important. But according my prictical experience, 90%+ cheap PSs will work well. So you may buy the 25 one. if it doesn't work, that means you are unlucky.
5. Focus on motherboard, PS and video card
6. unplug the new CDwriter and 30G harddrive before you try again.
