Can people hold H2 work in US?

My friend is going to States with her husband soon. His husband is holding H1 Visa (so she will be H2 of course). Can she work in States?

How? If she can find a job, of course she can transfer to H1, however, to transfer to H1, she needs to find a job first. So...again, without tranferring the status, can she find a job first? Thanks!

She can hold a H4 visa without job first and then transfer to h1 after finding a job.

你补充得对，找到工作才转成H1。而H1如果没工作，也是失效的。

Dependents of H1B:
Will get an H4. Dependents of an H1B visa holder can go to school, but will not obtain a work permit.


H2 working visa

Up to 10 months, then you must leave the US, but is renewable up to 3 times
You need to be experienced in your field, but don't need written qualifications
It only works where there is a shortage of workers in the field locally in the US
It takes up to 4 months to process, so plan ahead!
Age limit 18-40

Just go to American Embassy website, they can tell you everything, if you don't have language barrier

not a problem. also with H4, no social security number will be allowed (counterpart of SIN in Canada) and depending on state, no driver's license in some states.

yes, she will but need her prospective employer to sponsor her a H1B visa. With limited H1B caps per year and money and manpower involved in the process, most the employer in the US would prefer people who do not need an H1B. This is why it is hard to stay in the US and maintain in status: it is not really the job, but found-a-job-but-can-not-take-the-job issue. are you the H4?
