If your basement floor shows water, you may need to make sure where the water comes from: water pipe, drain pipe, washing machine, or the wall/foundation leaking. If the latter, you need to call the guy who can fixes the wall/foundation, not a plumber. Good luck!

Thank you. But my basement is finished and hard to check though.

Can I ask home insurance to repair for me?

Look through the wall. If the wall is wet (the paint or wall paper may peel out), it is from foundation. Usually around $600 for one crack for the foundation. If the wall is all right, then shut down all pipes connecting to the washing machine. See if there is still water coming out, it may from water pipe or drain pipe. Hire a plumber may not be a bad idea, but they charge you $90 per hour.

He he, anything is involved in insurance, the plumber would charge you 4 times, even 8 times more (why not, paid by somebody else). Anything needs to tear off the dry wall, $1,200; anything needs to dig the concrete floor in the basement, $3000-$4000. If you said you could be covered by an insurance company, they may charge the insurance firm $8,000 for the exact same job. In addition, your insurance premium may increase next year. Good luck!

Thank you for your advice.
My basement drywall looks fine. I already shut off main water switch, but the water still comes out from the floor near the drywall.

My home insurance is $1,000 deductable. I can call plumber by myself first then claim to insurance if over too much than $1,000. Do you think it is right?

The floor near the drywall is the most difficult area to be judged. It may be the pipe behind the drywall leaking, or maybe the foundation leaking through the bottom of drywall (especially after raining or snow melting). I could guarantee you the plumber would charge you over $1,000 if you tell them insurance first. You may call them first to ask for an estimation (but they may still charge you based on one hour) without mentioning the insurance. Then after you know the price tag, ask them if let insurance be involved in good or not. However, if I were you, I will cut the dry wall above the floor first (be careful if you are not a handyman, you may cut off the wire behind the drywall), and check the pipe or the concrete wall behind the pipe to make sure where the water comes from, then, call the service company. Of course, the smaller the drywall you cut off, the easier to put back. If today the water still comes out, it seems the water pipe leaking, not the foundation since there is no rain in the past 12 hours.

My friend cut off a small hole(30cm x 50cm) on the bottom of the drywall. I couldn't find the reason and water still come from somewhere. Would you mind helping me?

I switch off the main water last night. This morning, the floor seems getting dry except small sopt near the drywall towards washer. I will cut off another opening under washer pipes to see if the behind insulation is wet or not.
Thanks for any help.

If you shut down the main water tap, and the situation getting better, this implies the leaking from a water pipe behind the drywall. However, it is not easy to find out which pipe is leaking. Good luck!
