寻找税务律师

各位朋友,

请问在渥太华地区哪里可找到税务律师? 万分感谢.

事情经过:

一位朋友,国际留学生,已在渥太华住三年.他并不知道交完房租后向房东要收据.
最近税务局抽查到他,要他提供三年来所有的房租收据,否则必须将以前的退税全部上缴.可是, 他头两年住的那栋HOUSE已被原房东卖掉,找不到原房东提供房租收据.

这位朋友打电话给税务局告诉事情经过.税务官员相信国际留学生在这里没有亲戚提供免费住宿.但是, 由于没有房租收据,他们也无能为力.税务官员告诉他有两种解决办法:
(１)将以前的退税全部上缴．（可能流下记录）.
(２)找一位律师，在律师面前宣誓，头两年住在HOUSE并交付房租．由于ＨＯＵＳＥ易主，找不到原房东提供房租收据.律师费用大约＄４０到＄５０．
（估计很多新来加拿大的人开始租房时都没向房东要房租收据．税务律师那里应该有类似的宣誓样本）

Option 2 is easy to do

If this is an option provided by the CRA agent, then take it because it is really easy to do.

You can find a lawyer (almost any lawyer) to notarize an affidavit for you. The affidavit can be prepared by yourself, in which you state all the related facts and certify that you are telling the truth. The affidavit shall be written in formal English (like what you normally see in legal documents), and you may want to use bullet format. You can search some samples online.

Of course, it is also possible to ask the lawyer to prepare it for you, but I believe he will charge for that. Just to notarize an affidavit is not expensive at all. Some lawyers can do it at $20, because all they need to do is to verify you are whom you said you are (by a valid ID), and stamp the affidavit with their seal. Just call around and ask.

You can also go to City Hall for a public notary. I believe the cost is something like $38 per piece.
