I tend to believe it's indeed from TD, maybe from third party contracted though
you can call TD about this but it might not be that easy to check
unless TD absolutely doesn't have such thing which I don't believe
anyway it's probably a good idea not to give your SIN anytime by phone or online

I usually don't trust this kind of call. If I made the call to TD, then it is Okay if they ask me personal info to verify who I am. But when I receive a call, how do I verify who it is... ...
If somebody calls me and ask for my personal information, I usually tell them why don't you tell me your phone number and I can call you back when I am free.

I think you should be alert whenever someone called you and ask you your personal information. If you're really interested in what they're offering, let them leave you a phone number/name and you call them back. In this case you may have a chance to know if you're really dealing with the party that they said they are.
