Vinyl vs. Wood。正在选厨房cabinet的门，问个问题？？

Vinyl和wood到底区别在哪里，我问的几乎所有的人都说，千万别买Vinyl，Solid wood多好啊，可是具体Vinyl怎么不好，wood怎么好，没有一个人说出所以然来。我自己Google并且总结了一下，也请大家帮忙说说自己的看法。
从使用上看：
1. Vinyl 比 solid wood更不容易变形，尤其是对于湿度变化较大的环境。
2. Vinyl 比 solid wood可以有更多的颜色选择，我的builder standard wood只有5种颜色，而vinyl可以有更多更丰富的选择。
3. Vinyl 的柜子们比 solid wood更重一些。
4. 有朋友说Vinyl材料容易被氧化，使用一段时间容易变色，而wood的不会有这种情况。（有没有大侠有此经验）

从resale price上看：
1. 喜欢solid wood的人比喜欢Vinyl的人多，因此resale时候solid wood更吃香。

I like vinyl. Kitchen is dirty. I can use water and soap to clean vinyl but it will harm solid wood. Solid wood also would change color about long time expose to sun. Nothing last forever. Both vinyl and wood needs to be refurbished over the years.

It is difficult to say. because vinyl is including everything not wood. So they are lower end and high end. High end one is more expensive than wood to start with. Some of them is layer of plastic. Some of them use same thing as laminate couter top. For resale value a good condition kithchen is more important than anything else, whatever wood or vinyle.

The biggest problem for vinyle coated cabinet door is the glue. As the humidity and other reason, the vinyle coat may come off from the door panel or change the shape. I was told not only by one friend about this problem. Any way, there is nothing perfect in the world. The proper maintain is the key.

The biggest problem for vinyle coated cabinet door is the glue. As the humidity and other reason, the vinyle coat may come off from the door panel or change the shape. I was told not only by one friend about this problem. Any way, there is nothing perfect in the world. The proper maintain is the key.

A little contact cements will do the trick.

My white cabinet has been 11 years. Still white not color change. Since vinly is anything not wood. There are many kinds. Basically should pay little bit more for the high end one.
I like wood too. They look really nice. But wood is not stable under humidity and heat.

My cabinet is PVC also called thermoplastic. It is a layer of PVC covers wood fibre board. I found it very good and looks nice. It could be made very realistic as wood. Mine even has wood grain.

laminate is also good. It is the same thing as your counter top. but you have choice of color but not many style. Since it is only made flat.

Don't get melamine, that is the one turn yellow over the time. But if you chose a darker color it is still ok. and it is cheap , look nice too and lot of choices.

For the price are PVC > laminate > melamine.

如果实在选不出来，就升级吧。没准要跳到signature一级才能找到中意的。不过厨房本就应该是upgrade的一个大头，花点钱自己看着舒服也值。

你是说表面的vinyl会翘起来么？我问过类似的问题，builder给我说的材质不是laminate，而是叫做Thermofoil，我google了一下，Thermofoil是8－16毫寸的film用高热和高压压制到中密度板（MDF）上制成的，不同于传统的laminate cote。不知道这个翘起的问题会不会因此而解决。

升级到signature可不是一般的贵啊，好像光柜门一项就要4000多的upgrade。我们upgrade一共的预算才5000出头儿。

Thermoplastic和Thermofoils是同一种技术么？

Mine even has wood grain.

grain，你指的是看上去的纹理，还是摸上去的凹凸？Richcraft给的也有看上去的木纹理，但是摸上去是平的。

Yes it is. they are the same thing. The pvc layer, the thicker the better.

My cabinet surface I can feel wood grain somewhat. I believe it has some 凹凸 since I can find dirty traped in when I clean it. But all wood grain should only be seen not feeled even the wood. Wood is sanded down and painted.

The PVC cover the door 5 sides, back side is not covered. over the time (11 years) few places at side of door PVC come loose. The PVC still perfect grab the door never 翘起来. I put a little contact cement in fixed it right away

Only time I believe wood is better, wood could be repaired easier. If both materials are touched by hot object, they both would have a burn mark. I can sand wood a little and stain it . But PVC can't be repaired.

How did you get contact cement in the between? Mine has the same problem, but only the middle area comes off the panel while the surrounding borders are still in good condition. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

我到是只有门的四边和底板交界的地方有一两块脱了胶. 看不出来,手摸发现脱胶.只有炉头上俩个门. 应该是那个地方受热和潮气比较多.

沾的时候用几根牙签插入pvc和board之间. 上胶后留牙签15分钟等胶干止不粘手, 拔出牙签,按紧pvc.
