People should not support poor customer service
This was not my first time here, but rather, more like my 4th. This however, will be my last meal ever there.
We were near the end of our lunch and i had ordered some sushi, the rice was old, as well as the seaweed. You should always be able to bite through seaweed, not fight with it.
One of the wait staff was especially rude, she was a short Asian one, with a permanent scowl on her face, wearing glasses. She came to pick up our empty plates, and saw that i left my rice there, she immediately told us to eat the rice, and regardless of what we thought of it.. we should eat it because we ordered it. Mind you, it was about 1pm and we were starving so we just ate the fish and left the rice.
It only became an issue when that server decided to bring it up. Now, not only did she demand us to eat the rice, another server decided to chime in, and yell at us. So loud that our whole section heard and was looking.
By this time, we were quite embarrassed and upset by the treatment of the servers, so we asked a different server passing by to bring the manager. Rather than just fetching the manager, she had to pry and find out from us if it was worth the managers time.
After explaining the situation, the manager finally came and we again had to explain what happened. Now, at this point my friend was explaining the situation, and not me. I could see on the managers face that she was not being receptive to us and i told her that we are going to pay for our meals, and that we are NOT looking for free food. After that was over with she brought over our bill, and we were not charged for the bad sushi rice. I've read though, that some reviewers have been charged for uneaten food.
I've eaten in AYCE restaurants in Vancouver and suburbs, Calgary, Toronto and suburbs, and Seattle. I know how these restaurants work, and yes.. you are supposed to finish your food. In fact, i'm more of a sashimi person normally exclude the rice from ALL my AYCE meals. To be so petty and cheap about rice is absurd and a really good way to keep customers away. I should also mention that most restaurants give you twice the amount of fish than Sushi Kan.
**Heres a tip - If you happened to order too much food. Just hide it in your napkin and throw it out in the washroom. **
