The City of Ottawa, in partnership with SAW Video, present Shanghai Shanghai, the first solo exhibition in North America by Chinese video artist Zhenchen Liu. The exhibit will be comprised of four videos and a series of photographs.
Zhenchen Liu’s recent photographs and films, which are documentary and poetic hybrids, show the frantic changes taking place in Shanghai and their direct impact on its residents. According to the artist, the exhibit presents the view of a man who no longer recognizes his hometown and shows mankind’s blindness toward the notion of progress.
About the artist
Zhenchen Liu has been awarded numerous prizes. His latest video was named Best Experimental Film at France’s 9th Aubagne International Film Festival and has been screened at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
City Hall Art Gallery is located at 110 Laurier West. The gallery is open from 9 am to 6 pm, daily. Parking is available and admission is free.
