Actually it is normal. do not be over-reacting. I had the similar experience before. They are the people suspecting everything. This is their job, especially your claim is too small.
If I notice this action, I will argue with him/her and talk to his/her supervisor. last year I followed an Indian guy got out of guiyang airport, and the luggage checker asked me if I was with that guy, I said no, then he checked my luggage ticket, I responsed ” why didn't you checked him first, but me? Because I am a Chinese?” ..” How come you treat people from other country better then from your own country? Can you explain it to me? Please? Can I talk to your supervisor? And get the answer before I leave?”… my questions shocked him, then he said sorry to me,,, I told him tried to respect yourself, then respect people of own country before foreigner...then he looked at me with shame and guilty expression. My point is argue and question when you feel have to, if you are not willing to bare the anger you should…sometime, reasonable argue will gain the respect…at least,,it explain you will not bare the unfairness, disrespect action…if you bare the anger, you invite them do it to you again next time… Another time, I traveled to china via USA, when I departed from Ottawa, a Chinese alike custom caused me trouble,,,(by the way, they use Chinese to check Chinese in order to avoid discrimination issue, however, I told him that I do not think I am willing to go through so many questions with him and asked him if the flight delay would he responsible for that,,,he tried to explain like a argument, I told him I would rather talked to his manager and believed that some of questions he did not have right to ask. Then I was invited in the manager’s office and I clearly told him that America has zero attraction to me! and told him that his customs inspector is very inexperiences,,,and i also let him know that I gave American company a business by buying the air ticket from US airline, if this cause problem, let me talked to airline and cancel the ticket immediately! Then manager looked at me, and said sorry and wished me have a nice trip…. Ladies and gentlemen, you have to act like north American, not afraid of argue,,believe you are right,,,then you are right…good luck,,,argue will sometime make you feel better then angry by yourself
