Sudden surge of water bill

Hi All,

My current water bill for the month of Oct and Nov. is almost 4 folds of the usual usage. I wonder if anywhere is leaking? We have a sink in the basement, I can hear the water is running furiously in the pipe. Could that be the reason? Any suggestion is appreciated. Or any plumber in the west end to recommend?

Maybe the toilet flush tank leaking? I had the same problem before - the water bill went up double. Then I found one of the flush tank is leaking (water went to toilet continuously. I spent about $10 to fix it.

mostly toilet. It happen to me too. I hear water running in the basement when none is using. The problem is one of the toilet. It is leaking.

Unfortunately it's the actual billing this time, last month was estimate. Overall, the total usage for the two months would be 4 times usual amount. I checked all toilets /sinks, nothing seems to be leaking. The only place I hear water running is the pipe leading down to the sink in the basement. I really don't know what to do at this point.

mzhuang, did you get someone to help you fix it for $10? Would you mind sharing the plumber's name?

there is a small faucet to control the water in the basement in my house . I was told by the builder that I should flush it once a while to get rid of the smell. but once I forgot to turn it off after I turned it on, until the next day I noticed the water pressure is much lower.

you may try to find this faucet.

There is a package in Home Depot for around $10 to fix inside stuff of toilet water tank. The graph would should you how to install it easily. It usually lasts for a few years. Then, you need to change a new one. Good luck!

I believe the chance of toilet problem is still very high. Some time a simple check can't find the problem.

close all intake of flush tank and flush all toilet, If don't hear water running. You can be sure it is the toilet. Then you put them back on one by one, you should able to find it.

You guys are so right! I think I have found the leak, the toilet in the powder room. Homedepot here I come! Thanks again for everyone's help. Never fail.
