If you go to or transfer in USA, it is better to get to Ottawa airport 2 hours earlier. This is something the travel agent should tell you. I did not have any problem when I made the same transit last March.
Note that I am Canadian citizen.

从中国回来的时候还需要打电话确认机票吗? 以前做加航是这样的, 不知道美国的航班是不是也需要?

I did not need to confirm the return flight while I stayed only one week in China. I do not think that you need it.
