Ottawa residents are being urged to bundle up and stay out of the cold this week.
The Medical Officer of Health has issued a Frostbite Warning to ensure people take appropriate precautions before heading outside.
Environment Canada has issued a wind chill warning, with the temperature expected to feel like minus 30 C today.
The city says exposed skin can freeze in as little as ten minutes, and there is an increased risk of hypothermia for people who stay outside without adequate protection.
The Medical Officer of Health is recommending wearing several layers of clothing to keep warm.
The Ottawa Carleton District School Board says as part of its extreme weather policy, children won't be going outside at recess or lunch.
The CAA expects to receive an average of 450 calls a day for service as the temperature drops.
