有个朋友在卖房子, 他家的电线是铝线, 买方要求换铜线. 好像说是法律规定必须用铜线. 有人了解这个问题吗? 找谁去换呢? 大概价格是多少呢?

Must be very expensive to re-wire the whole house...:)

Yeah, must be. In addition to the wires and parts, virtually you would have to take down many dry-wall panels. Then put new ones up and pait the whole house. Whew! :p

Excerpt from the doc:

"- Aluminum wiring is safe if properly installed
... the Commission recommended that aluminum wiring should continue to be authorized for residential use.

- Use only CO/ALR wall switches and receptacles
... If your home has aluminum wiring and you need to replace a switch or wall receptacle, the replacement device to install should be of a type that is specifically approved for use with aluminum wiring. Devices approved for the use bear the marking "CO/ALR"."

:D Compared to re-wiring the whole house, replacing switches and receptacles is a lot cheaper now... :)

Yeah, agree.

Also, verify to see if the switches and receptacles are indeed "CO/ALR" compatible. If yes, no need to do anything.

I talked with my inspector when I bought my house. He said it is less a problem in Canada becasue code require thicker wire than US.

I still will rewire the house. It still a weak spot when you sell your house.

I would ask a big discount if I buy house with alum wire.

I believe that if it is pig-tailed at the box end then it is ok. At least that was the case 4 yrs ago. I sold my house and it passed inspection and buyer got insurance company's approval.
Total rewiring will cost around 2 to 4k.
