American chat show king Larry King this weekend described her overnight rise to fame as a modern-day fairytale and quipped:

For one modest and resolutely normal middle-aged woman with dreams, and millions like her around the world, it has been a week to savour.

http://bbs.comefromchina.com/forum47/thread650589.html

Susan Boyle's new hairdo pushes recession to the sidelines in Britain

LONDON - The economy is scary, jobs are disappearing and taxes are going up. But Britain is buzzing over something else - Susan Boyle's new hairdo.
Some say the overnight singing sensation who rocketed to fame after a phenomenal performance on "Britain's Got Talent" has every right to upgrade her dowdy appearance. Others fear she may lose her authenticity - and her amazing connection with the TV audience - if she goes too far in the image makeover department.
The change is startling. Gone is the fusty woman with greying, frizzy hair and a jowly face who joked on air that she had never been kissed, replaced by a stylish, freshly-coiffed lady in fashionable leather jacket and what looks to be a Burberry scarf. The dark, unkempt eyebrows have been shaped and coloured.
Fashion experts say she's taken years off her looks, but should think twice about making more improvements, particularly if they go beyond styling and involve artificial enhancements.
"She looks 10 years younger," said Toni Jones, assistant fashion editor at The Sun tabloid newspaper, which featured the new look Boyle on its cover Friday.
"Compared to what she had, it's a 200 per cent improvement. But our readers think this is as far as she should go. We want her to stay one of us."
Jones said Boyle's decision to dye her hair brown was causing some consternation among the powers-that-be at "Britain's Got Talent" by stoking fears that she may no longer seem real.
"It's got massive implications for her because the people above her want her to look ordinary," said Jones, who praised Boyle for spending 35 pounds at a salon near her home in Scotland rather than trekking to London for a 200-pound cut at a celebrity salon.
Jones said she was amazed at the interest generated by Boyle's new do and warned the singer against going too far by adding, for example, the hair extensions and fake tans favoured by England's WAGs, as the pampered wives and girlfriends of Britain's elite professional athletes are known.
Max Clifford, Britain's most prominent publicist, said the makeover was risky because it could jeopardize the singer's emotional connection to her audience.
"Keep her as natural as possible for as long as possible," was his advice. "It's more about protection than promotion. She's got the voice. She has to make sure that the person people all around the world fell in love with remains the same."
The debate has crossed the Atlantic, with Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan urging Boyle in print to take advantage of the opportunity to transform her appearance.
"The tale of Susan Boyle will not be complete until the shy spinster blossoms," Givhan wrote before the makeover. "Those who have been entranced by her story so far should let Boyle's fairy godmother finish her work."
But Givhan cautioned that Boyle might be tampering with success: "Boyle would not be mesmerizing if she were not an ugly duckling," she wrote.
Londoners seem to be split over the new look.
Dean Elliott, a young drama student in London, said Boyle had lost what made her special by altering her appearance.
"Part of the charm was that she wasn't done up," he said.
But Helen Gledhill, a London photographer, said she understood Boyle's decision and would likely have done the same if she was in the same position.
"If I had a bit more money and was exposed, I'd probably have something done too," said Gledhill.
She said the fact that talent is often less important than looks and sex appeal is a sad commentary on modern society, blaming Madonna for a wholesale change in attitudes.
"Before Madonna, you just had to have talent," she said. "Now, it's the whole package."
The success of the mini-makeover may hinge on how far Boyle progresses on "Britain's Got Talent." Judges will decide May 23 whether she gets through to the next round.

The moment she started singing, it brought tears to my eyes. She picked a perfect song for her audition and nailed it wonderfully.
Truly extraordinary TV moment.

Great stage presence too, a real performer.

Susan Boyle Eclipsed By 12-Year-Old Talent

Posted Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:41pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Video Ga Ga
Britain's Got Talent hopeful Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation last week with her moving performance of "I Dream A Dream" from the Broadway musical Les Miserables. Her back story of being a 48-year-old plain Jane who had never been kissed and lives with her cat helped her rack up tens of millions of YouTube video plays in days.

But 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi from Mount Pleasant, Swansea appears to have the goods to eclipse Boyle.

Jafargholi's performance Saturday night on the competition show has given the Internet yet another new buzz.

Lungs Of Steel: Meet The Newest 'Britain's Got Talent' Sensation

Posted Mon Apr 27, 2009 11:40am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

I don't know about you, but I'm already sick of Susan Boyle from Britain's Got Talent. And I don't even live in Britain! I've just reached my Boyling point with her.

Well, it does seem now that the population of Britain agrees with me, at least, because U.K. viewers' fickle attention has already turned first to younger and cuter 12-year-old Britain's Got Talent hopeful Shaheen Jafargholi (see more on him here), and then, as of last night, to the even younger and cuter 10-year-old singing ballerina, Hollie Steel.

Catherine Zeta-Jones interested in playing Susan Boyle Apr 30 2009 by Nathan Bevan, Western Mail

Susan Boyle

As Catherine Zeta Jones inquires about film rights to Susan Boyle’s unlikely story, Nathan Bevan asks: “Why do beautiful women love to play frumps?”
WITH her Oscar trophy, Bafta wins and Golden Globe nominations, there’s no doubting Catherine Zeta-Jones’ dedication to her craft.
Just how deep that dedication goes will be the question on her husband Michael Douglas’ mind following news that she’s expressed a keen interest in playing “hairy angel” Susan Boyle in a possible biopic about the Britain’s Got Talent singing sensation.
The prospect of the renowned Swansea beauty piling on the pounds, growing a uni-brow and tossing away the hairbrush for the role of the “never-been-kissed” Scottish church worker-turned-wonder warbler might make film fans wonder if she’s joined the long line of actresses “frumping up” to bag the big awards.
The 39-year-old Chicago star apparently asked about the film rights to the singer’s life story after she shot to fame belting out I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables on the hit ITV talent show earlier this month – a clip that has since become a massive internet smash, with around 100 million hits world wide.
“This is one of many requests we have had to play Miss Boyle,” said a source on Britain’s Got Talent.
“All these people are coming out and want to be associated with her. She is the biggest thing in the world. It is mental.”
Should Zeta-Jones land the coveted part, she’ll join the likes of Academy Award-winning A-listers Charlize Theron, who added 30lb, wore ill-fitting false teeth and hid her features under heavy prosthetics to play prostitute and serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, or Nicole Kidman, who donned a fake nose and dowdy wardrobe to play tortured poet Sylvia Plath in 2002’s The Hours.

Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle's 1995 audition: Insulting, degrading...and fairly standard reality TV

Apr 28, 2009, 11:34 AM | by Margaret Lyons

Britain's Got Talent may have been Susan Boyle's big break, but it wasn't her first foray into the reality-contest genre. Back in 1995, she auditioned for the Star Search-ish My Kind of People. Host Michael Barrymore wasn't as impressed as Simon et al:
Is this classless and sort of degrading? Yeah, absolutely. But I'm not sure that what Barrymore is doing is so different from how most shows treat a lot of their contestants. If this clip of Susan Boyle being mocked is sad and off-putting -- and it is -- what does that say about the the weeks of audition episodes on American Idol, where dozens of contestants are trotted out for the sole purpose of mockery? Do only talented singers deserve not to be degraded?
If we could stop congratulating ourselves for a second on how great it is that we're giving a middle-aged, not conventionally attractive woman the time of day, we might see, as others have pointed out, what's really amazing about her story: a little human decency going a long way on reality contest shows.

今天听朋友说Susan Boyle在1999年一个CD里唱了cry me a river这首歌,"very beautiful", 专门找来听,听众自己判断吧:)
