Susan Boyle's latest vintage performances: Her talent runs deep

May 3, 2009, 11:33 AM | by Tanner Stransky
Categories: Have You Seen This?, Viral Video!!!, Water cooler
Yet another vintage video clip of Susan Boyle singing has surfaced -- this time, she's crooning "The Way We Were" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him" during a singing competition in Scotland. And it all goes down when she's at the perky, ripe age of 22. Thankfully, this latest clip doesn't feature her being mauled by an overzealous reality show host.
In the video, which is below, Boyle is more timid than she was during her infamous Britain's Got Talent audition, but this 1984 clip is undoubtedly her -- a little slimmer, more youthful, and with a lovely sort of '80s vibe about her, especially with that sparkly-silvery curtain behind her.
But wait, there's more! Over on PerezHilton.com lives some audio of a "Killing Me Softly" demo Susan recorded, supposedly 10 years ago. In a word: Lovely.
With all this old tape turning up, I can't help but think about how easy of a time the producer of her rise-to-fame documentary (or, more likely, her True Hollywood Story) is going to have. Right? With all these auditions and demos existing out there, it's almost like she was destined to become famous -- and then have a moive made about her. Can't wait for it. In these overly quick media times, I think we should expect such a project in, oh, about the next month.
PopWatchers, what're your current feelings about SuBo? Do you love her renditions of "The Way We Were" and "Killing Me Softly"? Have you had enough -- or are you loving every minute of Susan Boyle's complete domination of 2009?

Britain’s Got Talent’s singing sensation Susan Boyle has become so popular that she has now inspired a cocktail to be made in her honour.

The cocktail, a vodka-based mix, has a layer of cream on top that gives drinkers a creamy moustache.

Luke Dallow, the owner of a bar in New Zealand, has revealed that the cocktail has been “designed to be a little bit cheeky, just like she is.”

“When you take a sip, it’ll leave a little moustache,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

Dallow has made the Auckland joint HQ of the Susan Boyle Fan Club. The Susan Boyle cocktail contains vodka, wild strawberry and sour rhubarb liqueurs, blossom water, cranberry juice and mixed berries.

It’s then topped with a creamy Frangelico layer and sprinkled with http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...-Boyle-in-a-cocktail/articleshow/4491802.cms# shavings.

Britain’s Got Talent Champ Paul Potts Has some advices for Susan Boyle
Published by MTV News on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 2:39 pm.

Since “Britain’s Got Talent” standout Susan Boyle became a household name and a fixture of gossip Web sites, there’s been no shortage of advice tossed her way: Tame that wild hair! Wait, don’t change — stay true to yourself! Drop out of the competition and strike out on your own!
But there’s probably only one person in the world who knows what Boyle is going through right now, and that’s Paul Potts. In 2007, Potts rocketed to fame after his soaring rendition of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” on “BGT.” Along the way to winning the competition, he was mocked for his appearance and underwent a makeover that had him wearing a tuxedo for the finale. Now, as Potts sees Boyle following in his footsteps — and coming in for the same sort of image-focused abuse that he did — he’s got some guidance for the singer.

“I think she should be allowed to change anything she wants,” Potts told CNN in a recent interview. “I don’t think she should be forced to change anything, but I don’t think she should be forced to remain as she was either. Because at the end of the day, you have to live with yourself for much longer than the attention that can be on you.”
Wise words from Potts, who sees something of himself in Boyle and the way the media is treating her. “I think I was under similar sort of pressures as Susan’s finding herself at the moment,” he said. “I’ve had people say, ‘Well, why didn’t you leave your teeth as they were?’ Well, I think I’d have felt like a bit of a freak show if I’d have kept my teeth the way they were. … Even though I was happy, I couldn’t show it as much as I wanted to because I was ashamed of my teeth.”
Genetically blessed or burdened with a face fit for radio, anyone suddenly thrust into the public eye should have the opportunity to pluck, dye and cinch to his or her heart’s content. Why else would “American Idol” employ who-knows-how-many hairstylists and wardrobe experts and makeover mavens, whose sole job it is to take ordinary people and make them presentable and marketable to millions of TV viewers a few nights a week? What would anybody do if every time you stepped out the door, the paparazzi started snapping your picture?
So, Susan, if you listen to anyone, let it be Paul. In fact, study every single thing Potts did after winning “BGT”: His debut album hit #1 on the U.K. charts and eventually went platinum.

Susan Boyle to chat with Oprah

A freshly made-over Susan Boyle will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Monday.

It was bound to happen: Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle will appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Monday.
And what luck? Just in time for May sweeps.
Winfrey's production crew descended on Boyle's Blackburn, Scotland, home on Tuesday and spent several hours getting a Boyle-guided tour of the place and interviewing her neighbors.
Boyle is expected to appear on the show via Skype, since she's currently preparing for the semifinals of "Britain's Got Talent," the singing competition that rocketed her to international fame.
Simon Cowell will also appear on Monday's Oprah episode, dubbed "The World's Got Talent," which will feature other "next big things" from around the globe.

Susan Boyle returns home prior to her Oprah appearance

American TV bosses subtitled Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle when she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show so viewers could understand her.
A production crew from the daytime US talk show descended on Ms Boyle's home in Blackburn, West Lothian.
They spent several hours being given a guided tour by the singing hopeful, and interviewed her neighbours.
Ms Boyle later told chat show queen Oprah that the global fame she had achieved was "like a dream come true".
The subtitles appeared on screen during a pre-recorded piece, but were dropped when Ms Boyle spoke live to Oprah.
Ms Boyle's rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables on ITV1 show Britain's Got Talent turned her into a global phenomenon after being posted on YouTube.

Vocal talents
The special episode of Oprah also featured other acts from some of the 40 countries where the talent show is filmed.
Speaking via a vide link from her home in Scotland, 47-year-old Ms Boyle told Oprah that despite the attention, she hasn't succumbed to pressure to radically change her appearance.
She said that her friend helps her with make-up, but added "that's hardly a makeover."
Ms Boyle also spoke of the reason she first began to explore her vocal talents.
"I was kind of slow at school, so getting something like singing was a good way of hiding behind that and so boosting my confidence," she said.
Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell also appeared on the Oprah show, and described his shock at hearing Ms Boyle's voice for the first time.

He said: "This lady came up, and I'm thinking 'This will take five seconds and I can go have a cup of tea'."
"She knew we were going to have that reaction and just to see that look of satisfaction on her face midway through - it was one of my favourite moments."
Cowell spoke about how TV talent shows have the power to transform people's lives.
He said: "It gives the underdog a shot, and I think it's brilliant. The fact that we're allowing the public to make the decisions most of the time is a really good thing.
"The great thing about it is when you start seeing it in places like China and Afghanistan. It's democracy. We've kinda given democracy back to the world."

Susan Boyle will be namechecked by family patriarch Homer during the show's 20th anniversary season

Since her Britain's Got Talent appearance the West Lothian star has reportedly been invited to dine at the White House with US president Barack Obama, after becoming a global celebrity.
But while she politely turned down the chance to meet America's first family, her fame has now reached the US's first family of television.

Although she will not appear as a character - an accolade granted only to international superstars like Michael Jackson, Ringo Starr, Elton John and Paul McCartney - she is to be namechecked by family patriarch Homer during the show's 20th anniversary season.

In the episode, titled Springfield's Got Talent, Homer admits he is a fan of Susan.
He is seen sitting in front of judge Simon Cowell at auditions for the talent show.
Asked to identify himself, Homer replies: "My name is Homer Simpson, I'm 39 years old and, well, I've never been kissed."
He adds: "My dream is to be a great singer like Susan Boyle."
It is the second time Boyle has been mentioned in a hit US cartoon show, with the cult characters of South Park complaining about her over-exposure in a show aired just a few weeks after her first appearance on British TV.
Character Ike wrote a note to his parents saying he had left home to become a Somalian pirate - because he was fed up hearing about Susan's performance of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables.
The singer's family said that she will be far happier at her mention in The Simpsons than on South Park - which carries a warning before airing that due to its "coarse language" it should "not be viewed by anybody".
Brother Gerry Boyle said: "She does watch the show and she will be chuffed to bits to get a mention, I'm sure."

”Susan Boyle shouted obscenity during screening of Britain's Got Talent: Reports

Internet singing sensation Susan Boyle reportedly let go with an f-bomb after she heard a judge praising rival Shaheen Jafargholi.
Reports said Boyle watching Britain's Got Talent when a judge praised the 12-year-old singer, saying he had just delivered "the best singing performance we have heard in the semi-finals so far."
The newly-coiffed Scottish siren apparently responded by flipping a two-fingered British bird and shouting at the television: "F--- off!"
A Boyle spokesman denied the report. The 48-year-old singer was not even in the main hotel room at the time, and had gone back to her personal room, the spokesman said.
The news comes after a pop singer claimed on Twitter that Boyle was "overrated."
That charge was roundly denied by 2002 American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, who told Associated Press that the Scot's version of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables, was beautiful.
"I think it's awesome. I'm bawling whenever I hear her sing," proclaimed Clarkson from Hong Kong, where she's promoting her latest CD, All I Ever Wanted.
Boyle can also county Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher as big fans, along with the millions who have witnessed her performances on YouTube.“

The dream is done: Boyle finishes 2nd on 'Britain's Got Talent' reality show

By Jennifer Quinn, The Associated Press

LONDON - She dreamed a dream, and it very nearly came true.

But Susan Boyle's reality show journey finished Saturday with a second-place finish in the finals of "Britain's Got Talent," an ending that didn't fit the fairy tale. Instead of the 48-year-old internet sensation, an exuberant dance troupe called "Diversity" took the US$159,000 prize and will perform for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Show.

Boyle paced around the stage as the hosts named the top three of the ten final acts, and looked almost relieved when her name was called as the runner-up. She recovered in time to graciously praise the dancers.

"The best people won," Boyle said. "They're very entertaining. Lads, I wish you all the best."

Boyle then curtsied several times to the audience, gave them her signature shimmy, and strolled offstage.

It had been a tumultuous week for Boyle, a woman previously unused to the limelight. She lost her cool during a confrontation with two reporters, and the police intervened. One contest judge said Boyle had contemplated pulling out of the competition to soothe her frazzled nerves

But when she stepped into the spotlight Saturday, Boyle seemed more polished - and animated - than in previous appearances.

She wore a modest, but glamorous, floor-length gown, and chose to go back to the song that rocketed her into the international spotlight: "I Dreamed a Dream," from the musical "Les Miserables."

Her hometown of Blackburn, Scotland - a small, working class village about 16 kilometres west of Edinburgh - rallied round her, stringing up posters and signs in her support. Friends and neighbours gathered at a local pub to watch the performance.

"I've known her for many years," said 72-year-old neighbour Margaret Yule. "She's a lovely lassie and she will do well whatever happens. Susan is about the singing, and fame and fortune won't change her."

Millions tuned in to the live program and voted by telephone afterward.

Boyle was up against a host of everyman acts determined to find stardom on reality television, including Shaheen Jafargholi, a 12-year-old whose voice has been compared to Michael Jackson's, Hollie Steel, a 10-year-old who turned in a solid performance after a tearful semifinal meltdown, and a grandfather-grandaughter singing duo.

And then there was "Stavros Flatley," a father-son act who parodied "The Lord of the Dance" by romping around the stage shirtless, in blond wigs and leather pants, combining Greek and Irish dancing and music.

But it was Boyle whom people tuned in to watch.

After her first appearance in April, Boyle became the favourite to win the competition. As she stepped on stage during auditions, her frumpy appearance drew condescending looks from the studio audience and the judges, but her soaring, evocative voice silenced the doubters and turned her into an Internet sensation.

The first moment Boyle sang was one that has been viewed millions of times, the fifth-most watched clip in history on YouTube. It was a moment that went down in reality-show history.

As Boyle hit a high note at the end of the song's first line, judge Simon Cowell's eyebrows rose along with her voice. The audience went mad. And a star was born.
She has since appeared on the "Oprah Winfrey Show." Demi Moore tweeted about Boyle on her Twitter feed. Boyle dominated Britain's tabloids - but there were signs she was feeling the heat.
She acknowledged Saturday that it had been a stressful few weeks, but said onstage that it had been "well worth it."
Cowell said that she'd been given a rough ride, but that she was "a nice, shy person who wants a break."

只差这么一点点,唉,还是希望她赢。:)

虽然比赛输了,她却赢了人们心里很多东西去。祝她好吧。
