The School of Mathematics and Statistics will offer a new non-credit enrichment course for the students in grades 11 and 12, beginning in September 2009. The course is intended for students planning to study Mathematics, Science or Engineering at the University, and its goal is to better prepare the students for the University level math.
The topics include:
1. Polynomials
2. Greatest Common Divisor of two polynomials
3. Newton's binomial formula
4. Various trigonometric identities
5. Moivre's formula
6. Combinatorics
7. Applications of combinatorics in probability
These and other topics will be covered in-depth, beyond the Ontario High School Curriculum. Classes will run September through March with a break in December. Classes will meet for 1.5 hours weekly in the evening on campus at Carleton University.
The tuition fee is $350 for the course. A special "early bird" rate of $300 is applicable for registrations completed before May 31, 2009.
Students entering the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Carleton University, who have successfully completed the course, will get a "Mathematics for Success Award" in the amount of fees paid for the course. Tuition waivers, based on financial need, are available.
Maximum class size is 40 students. The course offering is subject to a minimum enrollment. Further details and registration will be available in March 2009 at the web-page of the School of Mathematics and Statistics:
