有一道英语题:

James'grade point put him in the top third of the class. Nestor and Elizabeth have the same grade point--top tenth of the same class.
Nancy has a lower grade than Elizabeth.

If the above info is true. which of the following must also be true.

(2) James has a higher grade than Nancy
(3) Nestor has a highergrade than Nancy
(5) Nestor and James both have a higher grade than Nancy.

-----

I am a little confused here.
If TOP tenth means top 10%, (3) is correct
If TOP third means top 3, All (2)(3)(5)are correct.

So which understanding is correct?
TOP third means on the top 3 or top 33.3%?

TOP third means on the top 33.3%?

TOP third means on the top 33.3%

3) is correct, must be a GMAT question. Top third means top 1/3.

Top third is the subset of top tenth. Since there is no clear indication to support that James has higer grade than Nestor & Elizabeth, therefore, James, Nestor, and Elizabeth are all consider in the top tenth of the class. As follow,

Choice (2) is false, becasue there is no link to establish James has high grade than Nancy, all we know James, Nestor, and Eliz are all in top ten.

Choice (3) is True, becasue Nestor & Eliz have the same grade, and Nancy has lower grade than Eliz.

Choice (5) is false, because no indication supports James has higher grade than Nancy. All we know James is in top tenth; however, Nancy would be in top tenth too.

Hope this help.

P.S.
I would be wrong, anyone has better idea, please comment.

Critical Reasonning is particularly difficult for Chinese students. If you are indeed prep for GMAT, I highly recommend the Princeton Review, it will teach you tricks to crack the GMAT.
