I think most people here disagree with BJ boys take on this incident. For the most part, I think Canadians are not racist. That said, I think it should be remembered that the ethnic make-up of the country has changed drastically over the past twenty years. For many people, and in areas where there the change has been considerably great and quick it has been difficult for them to accept. This is particularly true of older people who grew up when the entire city was of European decent. I think you can appreciate that the change has been both substantial and extremely fast. Imagine a city in China that was to go from being 100% Chinese to being 70% Chinese 20-30 years later ... it would be hard for many Chinese in that city to accept. Again, I'm not making excuses, but trying to make sure people recognize all issues invloved.
Oh, as for the gas station incident, and parking spots incidents outlined above the fact is those individuals either didn't see you or are just rude SOB's who would do it to a Chinese, Indian or Whitie just as quick!
