Is Dehumidifier useful??? - Need your advice

I moved in a new house with A/C installed. Someone suggest me to buy a dehumidifer and put it in Basement. It's good for foundation. Is dehumidifier really useful? I really need your advice.

Dehumidifier is useful. I put it in my basement. There is no humid smell any more after using it.

Very useful. You need to keep your humidity down during summer months, it is much better for your hardwood floors, furniture and the air, and reduces the need for AC.

尽管我的地下室是walk-out的，我也放个除湿机。也不常用，像今天，地下室湿度只有40%，就没有必要开。

请问装dehuminifier与房子新旧有没有关系？我原来听说新房子用，旧房子呢？我应该怎么知道湿度。
