The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Ottawa shortly after noon Wednesday and were greeted by the 10-year-old niece of Transport Minister John Baird, who presented the Queen with a bouquet of pink and orange roses, officially welcoming her and Prince Philip to the city.
Madison Trudeau met the royal couple as they stepped off the plane at the Canada Reception Centre at the Ottawa International Airport.
Trudeau, who just finished Grade 5 at Castlefrank Elementary School, said beforehand that she was nervous "about messing up." But Trudeau, who stood next to her mother, Baird's sister Virginia Bertrim, pulled off her flower bearer duties without incident, curtsying expertly.
She said the Queen responded by saying: "Oh, that's very kind."
The Queen was greeted by a line of politicians, including Baird, Mayor Larry O'Brien and Ottawa South MPP David McGuinty.
