That's a beautiful song and a classic one. Stephen Foster, a 19th century great American composer, died penniless because he was trying to make a living as a professionalsong composer in the days when copyright law was non-existent. His music though had profound influence in American popular music in general.

I was brought up singing his songs such as Old Black Joe, Old Folks At Home and Oh Susanna. His music was already well known in China in the early 20th century.

While we are on the subject of 'oldie' music, let me put this one on the platter. My Blue Heaven was debuted in 1920s. You may be able to find traces of influence by Stephen Foster. This version is sung by John Stevens who appeared in American Idol in 2007. The young singing an oldie, what a contrast!

When whippoorwills call and evening is nigh,
I hurry to my Blue Heaven.
A turn to the right, a little white light,
Will lead me to my Blue Heaven.

I'll see a smiling face, a fireplace, a cozy room,
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom;
Just Julie and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.

You know I'm gonna see a smiling face, a fireplace, a cozy room,
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom;
Just Julie and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.

Can't Help Falling in Love

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread

Wise man say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay would it be a sin
But I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes something are meant to be
Take my hand take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes something are meant to be
Take my hand take my whole life too
For I can't oh I can't help falling in love with you
For I can't help falling in love with you

Shall I stay

至于为什么把 falling in love 与 sin,并联系到 fool rush in, 我想可能与这首歌的原作 Plaisir d'amour 有关:

The pleasure of love lasts only a moment
The pain of love lasts a lifetime.

:cool::cool: You are really good in digging up this original version. The English version was popularized by Peter Paul & Mary in the 60's. PPM is an icon in American folk music. The revival of folk songs peaked in 1960's because of PPM.
