刚买了屋，Hydro和Gas为什么要交cash deposit？

刚买了屋，第一张hydro和gas的单都分别要交250多的cash deposit,另外还有new account charge，请问cash deposit还有refund吗？有什么用途吗？什么时候可以refund？谢谢

If you set up direct payment with Enbridge, the deposit will be waived. Otherwise, the deposit will become your credit showing on your second anniversary bill if you make your payment on time during these two years.

Not sure about Hydro. We paid.

I guess new account charge is like adm. fee and you cannot get away from it.

For Hydro, you can ask staff to run your credit check and if it is approved, then deposit will be waived as well. However, it cost $15 to do it, even if your credit check is not approved.
