about security system

Hi, does anybody know whether the security system can use IP phone? I installed my security system today, but I was told that I must use the landline or buy a special equipment to use cell phone.

I'm thinking whether I can connect my IP phone to the system?

no... I'm not in Ottawa now. I moved to another city and uses the service from a local company.
