Watched the final part of the PBS special on the Chinese experience in the US. I thought it was interesting in light of the CFRA business that went on last week. I think that many Chinese are very sensitive in what they perceive to be racism, and given the historical experience of Chinese in America and Canada, it is quite justified.
I know this is not the place for it, but the whole issue of racism is interesting. All cultures are guilty of it to a lesser or greater degree. Chinese can be racist towards other cultures (what is the general opinion regarding black people for example?) I actually find it interesting how some "Chinese" people discriminate against each other. For example, Mainland Chinese vs. Hong Kong Chinese vs. Taiwan Chinese vs. Singapore Chinese vs. Overseas Chinese (who have additional, sub-catagories like American Chinese vs. Philippines Chinese and ABC's and CBC's vs FOB's (new arrivals)).
Overall though, I would say Canada displays less and less racism. This is particulary true of the younger generation where you can see black, asian and white friends hanging out together and being best friends. Less racism is a GOOD THING!
