This has once again showed a blind side of democracy: flawed and sad. The boy got rich from his father, a proved criminal and former Taiwan president. In helping his father in collecting and hiding illegal money, he himself is a criminal just like his father; he has recently been approved to hire prostitutes by Taiwanese court although he has vehemently denied. Beside, his resume shows nothing but emptiness of riched second generation.

It seems that his election to public service really says something, which makes you cannot help but relate it to the recent wins in the United States of several tea party backed candidates who "even cannot read" as described by New York Mayor Bloomberg who himself is a Republic.

The futue Chinese system should avoid these flaws. Although Today's Chinese system endows with much more flaws than the two suggested above, that is at least my hope.

TAIPEI - THE son of Taiwan's jailed former president Chen Shui Bian won a local election on Saturday despite his recent loss in a libel case against a magazine over allegations he visited a prostitute.
Chen Chih Chung collected more than 32,000 votes to secure a seat in the city council in southern Kaohsiung, the island's second largest city and a stronghold for forces in favour of formal independence from China.
'I want to thank you for your support,' Mr Chen said, while bowing low to his supporters. 'I will continue to fight for you.' The weekly Next magazine in July ran a story and photos of a woman who claimed to be a sex worker paid by Mr Chen. It also showed her getting out of a car owned by Mr Chen, although he was not photographed with her.
Mr Chen, who filed a libel lawsuit but lost, has alleged he was persecuted ahead of the local elections and accused judges presiding over his trial of dismissing evidence favouring him.
Mr Chen unveiled his election bid in June, saying he aimed to clear his father's name, arguing that the former president was a victim of a political witch-hunt.
He made the announcement on the same day a court reduced jail sentences for the ex-leader and his wife from a life term to 20 years for graft. -- AFP"

Well, that's not unexpected. Anyway, he can work on promoting the sex industry in his city not only for his own benefit. lOl
