Ontario:
Line 5860 – Tuition and education amounts
transferred from a child
You can claim these amounts if the rules are met for
claiming an amount on line 324 of federal Schedule 1.
Enter on line 5860 the total of all provincial amounts
transferred to you that each student designated on his or
her Form T2202, T2202A, TL11A, TL11B, or TL11C. If the
student was a resident of Ontario on December 31, 2010, the
maximum amount the student can transfer is $6,184.
You should claim both federal and provincial tuition and edutional amount. They are two different tax credits, and most likely the amount you can claim is different (e.g., you claim federal amount 5000, and provicial amount 4000). It's not that you add the two numbers to 6000.
Federal: Fill in Schedule 11 to calculate the amount (tuition, educational amount and text book allowance) available. Then calculate the amount that can be transferred to you, any unused amount can be carried forward to next year. see Line 323 - Tuition, education, and textbook amounts for details.
Provincial: Fill in Schdule ON (S11) to calculate the amount (tuition, educational amount and text book allowance) available. Then calculate the amount that can be transferred to you, any unused amount can be carried forward to next year.
Thanks.
I have one more question about this question. It seems there is amount that the parents can use for their claim. How can I know the exactly amount I can use from my kid(the student)?
