Ottawa Ikea store to be Canada's biggest


Ikea plans to build its largest Canadian store in Ottawa.
The new 398,000-square-foot store is expected to open in the fall of 2011, Ikea announced Wednesday.
The store will be at the Pinecrest shopping centre, near Highway 417 and Greenbank Road — the same plaza where the current store is — but it will be at a different location on the site.
Construction is expected to take up to 18 months and is slated to begin in May.
The company said it plans to hire an extra 125 employees when the new store is complete.
The building is expected to include high efficiency heating and cooling systems, water-saving plumbing and skylights to reduce the need for artificial lighting.
