It's very hard to pump Diesel into gasoline operated vehicle. As mentioned earlier by "jagar", the Diesel nozzle is much bigger that gas. You won't be able to put the nozzle in.

我之前听说有人把汽油加到了柴油车里头了,这得花多少钱才能洗干净油路啊.........

If you have pumped gas into Diesel operated vehicle, as long as you don't start the car, it's not expensive to fix. Maybe $100 to $150(easy fix. the tech just have to hook your car to a machine and suck out the gas.). If you have already started the car, and the car had died, couple hundred will fix you up.

Due to the physical properties of diesel (no spark ignition, ignited by heat due to compression), glow plugs are used in diesel cars. A glow plug cost about $30 to $40 dollars. Comparing to spark plugs which is $10/each, glow plugs are much more expensive. However, you do not need to change your glow plugs as often as spark plugs. Most gasoline vehicle requires spark plug replacement every 32000km to 64000km. For glow plugs, it could last 100000 or more(there is no service interval for them, the only time to replace is when they fail - common glow plugs failing symptoms is hard to start in cold).

Note, if someone has charged you for $200 to replace 1 glow plug, you have been ripped off. Take VW's TDI golf or TDI Jetta, replacing 4 glow plugs cost about $300 to $400.

有很多优点,但lz希望知道缺点,如下
坏了修起来比较麻烦,人工比较贵(只有柴油技师能修,他们的人工比普通技师贵)

Assuming you have a VW, and will be repairing you VW diesel vehicle at a VW Dealership. The labor rate is not gonna change no matter gasoline or diesel engine.

Most major fuel station(shell, petro-canada, esso etc) will carry diesel. You must be in really bad luck to miss all the diesel station. Personally, I have never been into that kind of situation.

I used to have a TDI golf, and after filling up the Tank, I could go to Toronto and come back with 1/4 tank of fuel remain.

Got X5 35diesel

One tank 85L can go a round trip from Ottawa to Toronto and still have some left. It is very good on Fuel consumption (7.6L/100KM). And very strong torque (425 @ 1,750). The engine sound (not noise :) )let driver really feel the power... Just love it :)

Compared to a gas engine, the diesel version is really worth of extra dollars.

At MYERS dealership.

the reason your glow plug is less expensive is because your car has the small engine. The one I drive the plug itself is about $80 before tax at the dealer.

and for the labor at MYERS, the diesel tech is about 20$ extra per hour comparing to the regular tech which is about 90-100/h.

By the way, dealer will always rip people off for sure.

There are A LOT esso and petro gas stations DOESN'T have the diesel. The situation got worse when you are close to the downtown area.

For the long distance driving, MOST of the stations near the highway DOES have diesel. It is much easy to get the diesel on 401 since every service station has diesel.

你们说的glowplug只是热车用的,点着了之后的Diesel车不需要火花塞,top dead center的时候喷油直接就爆了。

Since you have mentioned Myers VW, I will assume you have a VW. VW offers couple diesel vehicles which are TDI golf, TDI Jetta, TDI Passat and TDI Tourage(in Canada).

The glow plugs for TDI golf, TDI Jetta, TDI Passat are same price(same part #). At VW dealership, the retail cost is less than $15/each.The glow plugs for TDI Tourage is less than $40/each. I have no idea where you get the price of $80/each for glow plug for VW.

The other thing that you have mentioned is the labor rate at Myers. I personally don't know about Myer's labor rate, but 2 other VW dealership in Ottawa will not charge you extra labor for the difference of engine(as a matter of fact, I work for one of them).

The last thing you mentioned is "dealership will always rip people off". Most dealership that I have dealt with use a industry guide line(mitchell on demand) for labor that they charge - which means, if mitchell on demand quote the Job for 2 hours, that's what they will quote you. If you have been ripped off by some dealership, I can only fell sorry for you.

The other thing you should know that VW have launched a recall and warranty extension for Glow plugs for MK4 (4th generation golf, Jetta), certain passat and Tourage in the winter of 2010. If you have replaced your glow plugs prior to that, contact VW customer care with receipt, they will gladly refund your money.

There are a lot of reason to go to dealership. One of them is you never know whether your car still have warranty or not. The manufacture will release new warranty extensions and recall at times, at your local garage, they won't have that kind of info(even if they have, they can't repair it under warranty, they will charge you instead). For example, VW has release warranty extension for Glow plugs as I mentioned earlier, they also release warranty extension for Camshaft (cost about $2000 to $3000 for retail) for certain BPY engine (2.0 turbo FSI engine) due to camshaft follower and high pressure pump failure.

You are almost right, except, in a diesel engine, the fuel injection happens at about top of compression stoke - not top yet, but very close.

The other things is TDC is not the best term to use due to, in 4 cycle engine, there will be 2 times TDC - Compression stroke and Exhaust stroke.
