为什么Jack称Olivia 为partner ，而不是wife或wife and partner

To him, it seemed to me, she was more than a wife. It was very much appropriate for him to say so.

I respect Mr jack Layton. Whatever he said must have his reasons.
To me, people can have more partners but only one wife.
