绝对需要。特别是冬天，可以不开门通风。我家每天都用。
tartan的是标配。
不知你说的upgrade啥意思，是给你个更加高效的hrv，还是就给你装个hrv。

phoenix house is not energy star standard by default. but if the house is to be built in year 2012, all house has to be energy star in ontario, is that right? energy star or r2000 house, HRV is required.

some builder will remove bathroom fans when HRV is installed. ask them NOT to remove those fans since HRV is not powerful enough to get rid of odd or moisture when you need to get rid them fast.

至于uglyducking说的fan的问题，我是没有碰到过，我有2.5个bathroom，每个都有fan，不影响hrv。hrv的出风口是同暖气和空调一起的。

phonex这也不给standard，太小气了。估计upgrade得1000吧。我还记得当时tartan给我们作presentation时，特地强调他们比别的builder厚道，其中就有标配hrv。

I don't think it's necessary.
But if you would like to have it, it's better to choose an dedicated HRV which is around 4,000 right now.

sorry i wasn't clear enough, if the HRV is installed as dedicated system, each bathroom, laundry room, kitchen will have exhaust inlet and some builder will remove the fan in the bathroom, since they think it's not necessary to have HRV exhaust pipe & fan altogether. I believe it's better to have both.

hrv in an air-tight house, it also helps to control humidity level in winter time.

if you have an option to go with ERV, it might be a better choice. HRV is not recommended in humid summer time. Newer ERV can operate in hot and cold weather.
Also HRV manual said if outside temperature is lower than -20C, don't use HRV to prevent ice buildup at HRV fresh air intake or stale air outlet.

谢谢大家的热心回复。 我刚开始的时候没有upgrade HRV. 就是说错过了upgrade 的机会。现在再upgrade HRV。 不但要交 around $2900, 最让我纠结的就是要多交 a late change fee of $250。 不知道房子建好后，能否再请人安装呢？是否会便宜点呢？

some energy star home with dedicated HRV system, bathroom fan is deleted, to exhaust odd/moisture from bathroom, you have to turn on HRV when you can't 开窗. it was my lesson. when i found out that there's no fan installed in the bathrooms, it was too late. i checked the agreement, it didn't express clearly, just said bathroom fan is low voltage fan, which apparently referring to hrv exhaust outlet. i am regret that i didn't insist the builder to add back those fans with extra cost.

ERV will help A/C to reduce humidity level in a hot humid summer. You don't want to open window when you have your A/C on. HRV will increase the humidity level during summer time which makes your A/C works harder.

dedicated HRV 用的是多大功率的吹风扇？至少要500W吧？长期使用成本太高！
HRV 的功率 <= 100W, 天冷时有自动除冰功能。

困难的是我还没找到furnance 与 HRV 联合的 控制器。
所以往往是furnance 不转时 HRV在空转；
furnace 送风时 HRV 又在休息！

谁能解决这个问题？
