New Year’s Eve in Ottawa

OTTAWA – Organizers of various events around the city are hoping the cold doesn’t keep the crowds away Tuesday evening.
There’s plenty to do around the capital:
Canadian musician K-os will be entertaining crowds on Sparks Street along with local bands Loon Choir and Cardboard Crowns before a giant maple leaf is dropped to ring in 2014 at midnight.
Admission is free and the drop will be followed by fireworks.
There will also be fireworks lit from the roof of Ottawa City Hall as the Scottish Society of Ottawa hosts the second annual Scottish Hogmanay. There will be plenty of activities for the kids, as well as live Scottish music.
The Rink of Dreams will also be open if you’re willing to brave the cold.
If you’re looking for something a little more swanky, the historic Ottawa Union Station is hosting the National Capital Gala’s Gatsby New Year’s Ball.
If you’re over 21, you can head there for a night of VIP treatment.
General admission is $75; you can also get your hands on a VIP ticket for $95, which includes an expensive swag bag.
A portion of the proceeds will support the Caring and Sharing Exchange.
At Ben Franklin Place in Nepean, Ottawa City Councillor Rick Chiarelli is hosting an alcohol-free family New Year’s Eve from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Its a pirates and princess theme this year and admission is free. They are also boasting the best NYE fireworks show in Ottawa.
