(4)是否计划在OTTAWA安定下来,一旦进了政府,再出来找工作也不容易了,因为你的知识在老化,工业界不VALUE你在政府的工作经验,你习惯了政府的工作节奏,你的退休金成为了你的束缚(so many people are working for the pension <government's pension plan is so much better than most of the private companys' retirement plans>......),等等。。。

one entry level job, states in the job description that only minority could apply, but require bbb? how is that possible?

are there alot of Chinese in the Government?

There are more English essential positions for entry-level jobs, compared to senior-level jobs. For most senior positions, you have to be at least BBB (intermediate level), for most director and above level positions, you have to be CBC (advanced level in reading and oral interaction, intermediate level in writing).

You are right that still many entry-level positions also require BBB or even higher --- but there should be some English essential positions --- keep on looking and good luck!

pretty much if u can't speak french, then there is no chance you will be doing management job.

if you are doing IT or other position need special skills, then only speak englisg is ok, otherwise the chance is almost ZERO to get into the goverment even for entry level job.

IT and need special skills.....and passed the 3 exams and still required BBB...........my telephone interview sucked, but, anyway, I mostly likely won't pass the bbb...

frustrated!

btw, I apologize that I condemn you in another post....that's not so nice...I know you probably just want to console me....

Well said

Well said, I added three points:
- Timing, it is better to start a government job earlier than later, otherwise the pension does not mean much based on current formula. ( low on years of services)

- Even in management position in Fed government, what exact a manager could do if people under your team do not perform? Essentially nothing and as a manager, you will be pissed off and look really bad in the department

- if Chinese employee passed bilingual, I get a better future in government. But Let's look from another angle, if you invest the same time and effort on English (say reading, writing and oral), do you better off in private sector?

Again, this observation is based on my experience as information technology worker, may not be applicable to other career paths in government.

it is not a big deal, i don't care about it.

good luck for ur job hunting:)

Actually, unless the position require direct client service to the general public, most of the junior and intermediate positions require only English or French.

to be frankly, not too high. I think most Chinese working in the government get around 40K(entry) - 70 K(senior).

It is very hard to go over senior level to enter the real management level cause they require BBB or CCC level of French and Level 3 for Written English, nor to mention the tedious, and pain in the Ass competition process.

If you want to work for government and good pension is one of your main reason, it is better to get in there early and work there till you retire.
