The Mystery Continues and Gets Stranger
But first, I wanted to talk about the email I sent out yesterday.
I told a story of how I recently heard a loud CRASH in my home,
that was SO LOUD it shook the house.
I couldn't figure out what it was and it's still a mystery. I asked
my readers for ideas, and I was amazed that there were so
many potential sources of loud 'crashing' sounds!
Check out the list...
* Blue ice falling from aircraft
* Drywall cracking from extreme temperature changes
* Wood shifting / cracking from extreme tempuratures
* Ice cracking under the snow on the roof
* Water hammer (from plumbing)
* Electrical transformer explosion (happened in someone's
backyard!)
* Roof truss 2x4s popping or (worst case) snapping
* Cracked furnace burner causing a fireball (!) upon starting
* Aliens or the paranormal (LOL)
* Construction blasting
* Ice and snow sliding off the roof
* Garage floor slab cracking and caving in (!)
* Garage door spring breaking
* Foundation wall cracking after mild weather + extreme cold
* Cat knocking over plants and other stuff
* Ice bombs (!!) - check out Discovery Channel for a video
* and... Earthquakes!
I knew it wasn't construction blasting, garage door springs,
shifting wood, cats knocking things over, ice falling, water
hammers... I know what they sound like. My furnace is okay,
no blue ice on the driveway, and I can only hope it's not aliens
or the paranormal.
But when someone said it was an earthquake, I thought I would
check out the news. Nothing mentioned, and nothing on the
NRC website which tracks earthquakes.
Then I called my mother who lives about 5-10 minutes away
from me. I asked her if she heard something around the same
time, and she said YES! She also thought something had hit
her house!
So maybe it was an earthquake? If so, it was a VERY strange
one because usually they last more than 1-2 seconds and you
can tell it's a tremor. This was literally like something had hit
the house.
Maybe it was a jet aircraft's sonic boom? I have no idea.
Anyone else in the Ottawa area (specifically Kanata) hear
something similar around 5-6pm Jan 18th? If I remember right,
it was already dark outside when it happened...
