OTTAWA — After decades of being eyed by politicians and builders as a place in need of urban renewal, redevelopment is coming to Mechanicsville. Ready or not. “It’s really the last vestige of the old city,” says Katherine Hobbs, the area’s councillor. “They were going to expropriate it at the same time as they expropriated LeBreton Flats, but in the end they didn’t and it’s survived. It has corner stores, it has a garage where you can take your car. That’s the mix I’d really like to retain.”
