Committee approves digital billboards; further study ordered for suburbs, rural areas

OTTAWA — Digital billboards were approved by council’s planning committee on Tuesday, though councillors suggested that proposed regulations are too restrictive for rural and suburban areas and called for further study. The programmable signs are nothing to fear, committee members said, despite concerns raised by some residents who spoke at the meeting and provided feedback during a pilot project that saw digital billboards installed in three locations in March 2011.
