OTTAWA — His light-rail plans are essential for Ottawa’s economy and federal Tory politicians had better support it, Mayor Jim Watson told a large group of local businesspeople in a lunchtime speech Thursday. The city government is still years away from asking the federal government for $975 million toward the $3-billion vision for new rail lines in all directions that Watson presented city council with two weeks ago. Council hasn’t even formally voted to make that vision its own. But Watson knows what he wants.
