Ottawa - The City of Ottawa’s Commemorative Naming Committee is conducting public consultations on a proposal to name a room in the Kanata Seniors Centre at 2500 Campeau Drive the “Owen Prince Room.”
Owen Prince Room
In recognition of Owen Prince’s extensive community service, the City of Ottawa has been asked to name a room in the Kanata Seniors Centre, at 2500 Campeau Drive, the “Owen Prince Room.”
In the 1990s, Owen Prince assisted in lobbying Kanata City Council for a Kanata Seniors Centre and in 1999, City Council gave the go-ahead on the condition that seniors raise a minimum of $150,000. Under his leadership, the team exceeded its goal and raised $240,000.
After the centre was built, Owen was instrumental in the layout, outfitting and construction of the kitchen facility. He was involved in acquiring the centre’s first computers through a federal program and made arrangements for the initial Kanata Seniors Council website. He also established a seniors’ choral group and became its musical director.
