A 49-year-old Mississauga woman died Canada Day afternoon after diving into the St. Lawrence River near Brockville.
“We were notified there was a diver in distress,” said Sgt. Kristine Rae of the Ontario Provincial Police of the 2 p.m. accident.
The OPP Marine Unit responded to the accident, about five kilometres west of Brockville, and pulled the woman from the water.
An ambulance took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman’s name is not being released until family members are notified.
“There’s an investigation ongoing in relation to the other people that were there,” Rae said.
