There were three involved in a violent altercation in Val-des-Monts Thursday. The only innocent party was a Labrador retriever.
MRC des Collines police said a 78-year-old man shot his neighbour’s dog at around 5:30 p.m.
The dog’s owner, 27, then rushed to attack the man with a two-by-four, hitting him in the face.
The older man was hurt but no ambulance was needed. The dog suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound.
Both men were arrested: The 78-year-old was charged with animal cruelty and illegal possession of a firearm. The 27-year-old was detained and charged with armed assault and breaking probation.
They will appear in court at a later date.
