Gatineau police arrested two suspects today after two men were attacked, one of them thrown into the Ottawa River, during a mugging on a bicycle trail behind the Université du Québec en Outaouais Friday.
Police were called to the scene at about 12:30 p.m. and found two men in their 40s who were attacked in a wooded area off the bike trail. One was thrown in the river, the other managed to flee.
The suspects stole the men’s bikes, as well as a smartphone, some cash and other personal effects.
One of the victims was able to to provide a good description of the attackers and police tracked the the suspects nearby.
The pair, both 21, were arrested after a short chase on foot.
While the victims were shook, neither one was hurt, police said.
