Green visited a doctor after not feeling well upon his return from vacation. He was referred to the Queensway Carleton then to the Ottawa Heart Institute.
Green arrived at CFRA in 1960 as a reporter, and six years later began hosting the long-running open line talk show Greenline. He retired briefly from radio in the 1980s and returned in 1990.
In 1993, the outspoken Green returned to CFRA, and has hosted The Lowell Green Show ever since.
